Features

FDM vs. resin for jewelry

Most fine jewelry details require an SLA or DLP resin printer. Standard FDM layer lines at 0.2 mm are visible on ring bands and pendant surfaces. For rings and earrings, use an Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra, Anycubic Photon Mono X 6K, or similar resin printer at 0.05 mm layers. The generator is optimized for resin output: all features are sized at minimum 0.5 mm wall thickness to survive resin printing without supports collapsing.

What resin to use for printed jewelry?

Standard grey or clear resin works for prototypes and display pieces. For wearable jewelry, use a dedicated ABS-like tough resin (Siraya Tech Fast, Elegoo ABS-like) — it is impact-resistant and does not yellow as quickly. For lost-wax casting workflows, use a castable wax resin (Siraya Tech Blu, Formlabs Castable Wax) which burns out cleanly in a burnout oven before metal pouring.

Ring sizing: US vs. EU vs. inside diameter

The generator accepts US ring sizes 3 through 13 (including half sizes) and also lets you enter the inner diameter directly in millimeters. US size 7 = 17.35 mm ID, which corresponds to EU size 54. The wall thickness of the band is set separately and does not affect the inner fit — so switching from a 2 mm band to a 3 mm band keeps the ring size constant.

Gem prong settings

The 4-prong and 6-prong settings are sized for standard round cubic zirconia (CZ) from 3 mm to 8 mm diameter. Set the stone diameter in the generator and the prong geometry adjusts automatically. The seat angle is 10° inward — stones press-fit with moderate hand pressure and do not require adhesive. For actual gemstones (corundum, garnet, etc.), add 0.1 mm to the stone diameter for a looser fit.

Printing pendants and earrings

Pendants print best oriented bail-side down (the loop facing the build plate). This puts supports only on the flat back face, which is easy to clean. Earring hoops print cleanly at 45° with auto-supports. Stud posts are thin enough to print without supports in most SLA printers. After printing, wash in isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for 5 minutes and post-cure under UV for at least 3 minutes per side.

Selling 3D printed jewelry on Etsy

Resin-printed jewelry sells well on Etsy, Artfire, and Amazon Handmade. Listings perform best when you photograph pieces on a neutral background with a size reference. Include ring size prominently in the title. Generated STL files may be used for personal projects — review the license on the main page before listing printed copies for sale.

🎯 Resin printers for jewelry

For fine jewelry details, a 4K or 8K SLA/DLP resin printer is recommended. Resolution is typically 35–50 microns XY.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the jewelry generator free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no download, no watermark. The geometry is generated in your browser and exported as STL or 3MF directly to your computer.

Do I need a resin printer for jewelry?

For rings and earrings with fine details, a resin printer (SLA/DLP) is strongly recommended. FDM printers like the Bambu A1 or Ender 3 are sufficient for bracelets and large pendants where layer lines are less visible, but ring bands will show FDM texture.

How accurate are the ring sizes?

The inner diameters follow the ISO 8653 standard. US sizes are mapped to the standard inner diameter table (e.g. US 7 = 17.35 mm). Resin shrinkage is typically 0.3–0.7% — test with a single print at the target size before printing a full set.

Can I use the STL files for lost-wax casting?

Yes. Export the ring or pendant as STL and import it into your castable wax resin workflow. The wall thicknesses in the generator are set to 1.2 mm minimum for rings, which is sufficient for standard burnout casting. Thinner walls may crack during burnout.

What gem sizes does the prong setting support?

Round stone sizes from 3 mm to 8 mm diameter. The generator supports 4-prong and 6-prong settings. Set the stone diameter and the prong geometry auto-adjusts. For oval or cushion stones, use the manual cutout mode and enter the stone dimensions directly.

Can I sell what I print from this generator?

The generated files may be used for personal projects. Please review the license on the main site before listing commercially printed jewelry for sale.
