Features

Why use a parametric box generator?

Pre-made box designs from Thingiverse or Printables rarely match exact dimensions. A parametric generator lets you enter the precise outer dimensions, wall thickness, and lid style you need — the geometry is computed on the fly and exported directly as STL or 3MF. No Fusion 360, no OpenSCAD knowledge required.

What filament should you use for storage boxes?

For most workshop and desk organizer boxes, PETG is the best choice: it is food-safe, heat-resistant up to ~80 °C, and more durable than PLA under load. PLA works well for decorative or low-stress boxes. For flexible gaskets and snap-fit lids, a Shore 95A TPU inset pairs well with a rigid PETG body. All three materials print well on FDM/FFF printers like the Bambu A1, Prusa MK4, or Ender 3.

Gridfinity explained

Gridfinity is an open-source modular storage standard developed by Zack Freedman. Every bin snaps into a 42 mm baseplate grid. Our generator supports native Gridfinity sizing — enter the number of grid units (1×1 through 5×5 and beyond) and the correct outer footprint is calculated automatically. Export as 3MF for multi-material setups in Bambu Studio or PrusaSlicer.

Slicer settings for boxes with lids

For snap-fit and threaded lids, print walls at 3–4 perimeters and use 30–40% infill. Threaded parts benefit from 0.15 mm layer height for crisp thread profiles. In Bambu Studio, use the "precise wall" mode to reduce dimensional variation. In Cura, disable "z-hop on retract" for small features. Always print the lid test first — most dimensional issues appear at the first thread turn.

Cookie cutter & stamp mode

The box generator also covers thin cookie cutter and fondant stamp shapes. Switch to "cookie cutter" mode, set wall thickness to 2 mm and height to 20 mm, and export a single-piece cutter. Use food-safe PETG or dedicated food-safe PLA. Wash thoroughly after each use.

🎯 Recommended filament for boxes

PETG is ideal for storage boxes — durable, food-safe, and heat-resistant. 1.75 mm fits Bambu A1, Prusa MK4, Ender 3.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the box generator really free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no download, no watermark. Everything runs in the browser using WebGL. You export the STL or 3MF file directly to your computer.

What filament is best for storage boxes?

PETG for robust workshop and kitchen storage (food-safe, heat-resistant up to ~80 °C). PLA for decorative boxes. TPU for flexible snap lids and sealing gaskets.

Does the Gridfinity output match the official spec?

Yes. The generator uses the standard 42 mm pitch and the official bin-height increments (7 mm per unit). Bins snap onto any Gridfinity baseplate printed from official or community designs.

Can I use the generated STL files commercially?

The generated STL and 3MF files may be used for personal projects. Please review the license on the main page before selling printed copies.

How large can a box be?

Dimensions are freely adjustable. The generator shows a warning when a box exceeds a typical print bed (220×220 mm for Ender 3 / Prusa MK4, 256×256 for Bambu A1). You can also split large boxes across multiple parts.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The generator runs in any WebGL2-capable browser including Chrome and Safari on iOS and Android. Touch controls support orbit, zoom, and pinch-to-scale.
